Life in a New Light

This is an exciting time.  Lighting accounts for 22% of the energy used in the U.S., which is more than it should be.  Asking people to change their lifestyle is difficult even for something as important as energy savings.  Despite this, lighting has emerged as that simple solution, the quick answer in this energy conscious era, the way all of us could do a little to help. The compact fluorescent lamp or CFL was forced into the position of unlikely hero, appearing in gift bags at the Oscars and buoyed up with heady tag lines like: Change a bulb, change Everything or It only takes 18 seconds to save the Planet.  Then, almost predictably, we witnessed the application issues with the CFL, the tepid consumer response even with premium retail aisle space and heavy subsidization.  But soon, we saw a new candidate emerge: LEDs.  The little LED has been labeled the most promising lighting technology for energy savings by the Department of Energy with the ability to “fundamentally alter lighting in the future.”

So, why these early accolades?  LEDs in the lab have enjoyed tremendous increases in efficiency over the last few years—outpacing many industry predictions by a decade in some cases.  Market available LEDs with consistently better efficiency than the most efficient fluorescent systems have already emerged.   At the same time light quality for LEDs has improved greatly as well.  Lighting fixture manufacturers are trying to create new products with this unique light source.  They are concurrently attempting to gauge the public’s reactions to the LED while avoiding the issues that plagued the CFL.

The question remains: how will the public react to LED lighting and how much are they willing to change?  The industry has hedged by creating a new technology in the image of the past technology.  Myriad LED incandescent replacement lamps are being pumped into the market.

The problem is: creating new technology in the image of past technology hardly ever works.  A host of application issues lie in wait for screw-based LED replacement lamps.  Just as CFLs performed poorly when stuffed into a recessed can or placed in a closed luminaire where they couldn’t breathe, LEDs too will suffer.

This is why we are excited to offer a product line of LED fixtures that cater to the strengths of the technology and which offer true energy savings potential.  Our fixtures Break the Bulb mentality in the design and manufacturing of light fixtures.  We offer fixtures in a unique, ultra-thin package.  They are efficient.  They are user-friendly.  They are easily controlled.  They will replace the much despised fluorescent lighting that has been part of most office workers’ daily life for too long.  Most of all, the fixtures are beautiful. The soft, uniform quality of light is appropriate for almost every application.  The even, luminous profile of the fixture is a wonderfully appealing design element.  Lunera products will redefine how you light your commercial and residential spaces.

Seeing is believing.  Don’t take our word for it.  Stop compromising on your lighting.  Lunera will show you that beautiful lighting can be efficient lighting.  It can be sustainable lighting.  It can be healthy lighting.  It can be controllable lighting.  It can be effective lighting.  So, break the bulb mentality of what lighting needs to be and see how Lunera can show you Life in a New Light.
